Became an expert in substance abuse prevention-based research. Taught alcohol, tobacco and drug education classes to nearly 500 elementary students each semester. Guest lectured at area high schools and at-risk facilities. Taught parenting courses as a certified instructor in Positive Action PreK-12 and parenting curriculums. Obtained nearly 200 continuing education credit hours in ethics, drug intervention techniques, HIV awareness and cultural competence.

Learned all editing and production aspects of a quarterly interior design magazine as an editorial intern. Fact-checked articles and contributed content to new products and trends departments. Wrote a 2,000-word cover story about the rebirth of wallpaper in interior design. Wrote additional articles about home decor, popular kitchen tech gadgets and luxury rental properties. Contracted at the conclusion of the internship to copy edit the Summer 2008 and Fall 2008 issues of the magazine. Also ghost wrote several editions for the “Letter from the Editor” section.

Co-founder of the campus alternative investigative student newspaper, InCite. Designed print layouts, logos and the website for InCite. Wrote 1,800-word investigative piece about lack of alcohol and drug recovery resources for students, despite the university’s ranking as No. 8 party school. Traveled to Matamoros, Mexico to cover immigration and border security issues during the height of the illegal immigration debate. Wrote a cover article for the university’s largest student magazine, burntORANGE, about the school song’s minstrel show origins and racial disparities on campus. Contributed to “Forty Acres of Fun,” a book about student life at the university. Worked as TV reporter and production staff for KVR News.
