What I Like to Read

My favorite books to read are kidlit—from children’s books to young adult—featuring diverse characters with compelling voices and brave outlooks on life. For both kidlit and adult books, my favorite genres are speculative fiction (mostly fantasy and science fiction), thrillers, and contemporary literature. Romance in fantasy books is always great, but not required. I also enjoy outstanding intersectional titles about self-worth and professional development.

Some of my recent reads include “Jabari Jumps,” “Swashby and the Sea,” “Barracoon: The Story of the Last ‘Black Cargo’,” “Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual,” “The Light of the Fireflies,” “Severance,” and “Sanctuary.”
